IUCN Red List assessment of Ebenaceae

Completing the IUCN Red List assessments of all Ebenaceae

Partner: MBG – Missouri Botanical Garden
Years: 2019-2020

This project focuses on IUCN Red List assessments of Ebenaceae, with the goal of better understanding the conservation status of Diospyros species.

From their current 25% representation on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the objective of the project is to increase the percentage of ebony species whose risk of extinction has been assessed to over 90% (most of the remaining <10% will likely be Data Deficient).

Toward this end, approximately 500 Diospyros species will be added to the IUCN Red List by the end of 2020.
