Global Trees Campaign: Scaling up conservation action for threatened trees around the world

Partners: BGCI – Botanic Gardens Conservation International, Fauna and Flora International
Years: 2019-2021

The GTC, a partnership with Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and Fauna & Flora International (FFI), is the only international programme dedicated to threatened tree conservation. Since it was established in 1999 this unique partnership has addressed the conservation of over 375 threatened tree species, catalysing and delivering action for trees in 48 countries. Working with a network of local partners, we take practical action to address two problems:
(1) large numbers of tree species are threatened, facing a wide range of issues and constraints
(2) there are limited local institutions where these threatened trees occur capable of delivering effective, sustainable conservation.

Building on this work, the goals of this projet are to:
(1) increase the security of at least 140 threatened tree species in situ, by reducing threats and/or promoting population recovery in 36 sites in at least 12 countries and
(2) catalyse and empower constituencies of skilled and dynamic local institutions operating in priority countries for trees, capable of delivering effective and sustainable tree conservation.
