Partner: Envol Vert
Years: 2020-2021

The project aims at conserving five threatened tree species of the Piedmont and the Amazon basin: Nogal (Juglans neotropica), Ishpingo (Amburana cearensis) and Cumala (Virola surinamensis) classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, as well as Caoba (Swietenia macrophylla) and Cedro colorado (Cedrela odorata) classified as Vulnerable.

In the Piedmont, the project focuses on the restoration of forest patches degraded by the coffee/cocoa farming activities and on improving the sustainability of their activities to stop the migration of farmers to nearby primary forests. In the Amazon basin the project focuses on generating knowledge on the distribution and abundance of the target species within a protected area to support the necessary actions on the ground to reduce illegal logging and land-use conversion.
